With two performances this fall that represent the rich culture of Cuba and Mexico, the Center invites its audience to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month all semester long! Experience the hypnotic allure of Malpaso Dance Company in October and join the Mariachi Herencia de México family for the holidays this December.
On October 20, the classically trained Cuban dance troupe, Malpaso Dance Company, performs “a blend of unfussy ballet technique and lushly earthy modern dance, spiked with now-soft, now-explosive capoeira” (The Boston Globe). Formed in 2012, Malpaso has ascended to the top of contemporary dance with performances that are as technically brilliant as they are passionately expressive. In their upcoming performance at the Center, the program will include the following repertoire: Indomitable Waltz by Aszure Barton, Why You Follow by Ronald K. Debuting at the Center for the Arts on December 10, Mariachi Herencia de México is a vibrant group of Mexican American musicians propelling the art and traditions of mariachi music to new heights. This Latin GRAMMY-nominated group has released four highly acclaimed studio albums with chart-topping debuts on both Billboard and iTunes’ Latin Album charts. The ensemble has toured throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, performing in some of the most prestigious performing arts centers across the continent, including The Kennedy Center and Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado.
