Vaccination Policy

Update: April 22, 2022

Based on current trends, we are amending our policies as follows:

Proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test result is required through May 1, 2022 as specified in the policy below. Beginning May 2, 2022, face coverings are recommended for most events and audience members will not be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test result for most events except when required by the event organizer or artist. If proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test result is required for a specific event, it will be indicated on the webpage with event details.

Proof of vaccination or a negative test result will be required for the following events in May 2022:

A Concert Presentation of ‘The Boy Detective Fails’

Spring: Dance Innovations

Mason Symphony Orchestra Concert

Dewberry School of Music Student Honors Recital

Vaccination Policy for Audience Members

Proof of vaccination and matching photo ID will be required upon entry into the venue in the form of a physical vaccination card, a digital copy on a mobile device, digital presentation of a vaccine passport app, a printout from a medical provider, or an individual’s state vaccine registry. An accompanying adult may verbally confirm a minor's identity.

Patrons who are not vaccinated (including those under age 12) must provide proof of negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the venue.  

Acceptable negative results must be from CDC approved: 

  • Rapid Antigen tests within 48 hours of performance time or  

  • PCR tests within 72 hours of performance time 

Self-administered or at-home COVID-19 test results will not be accepted.  

Acceptable results will need to be displayed upon entry into the venue either digitally on a mobile device or printed. Information about free testing in Virginia may be found here 

This policy applies to all attendees, including those who did not purchase tickets. All members of an attending party ages two and up must be prepared to wear face coverings when indoors.   

If proof of vaccination or negative results are not presented at point of entry, attendees will be denied access to the venue and offered a refund/exchange. Entry requirements are subject to change.  

Proof of vaccination/COVID-19 test results will not be required for audiences at outdoor events.

What types of proof are accepted for vaccination?

Patrons can present a physical vaccination card, a digital copy on a mobile device, digital presentation of a vaccine passport app, a printout from a medical provider or an individual’s state vaccine registry.   A matching photo ID is also required.

What should I do if a minor in my party doesn't have an ID?

An accompanying adult may verbally confirm a minor's identity.

How do you define fully vaccinated?

“Fully vaccinated” means that either 14 days have passed since receiving the second dose of FDA or WHO authorized double-dose vaccines or that 14 days have passed since receiving the sole dose of FDA or WHO authorized single-dose vaccines. 

What kind of negative COVID-19 tests are acceptable?

We do not wish to exclude anyone from our venue. Patrons who are not vaccinated or exempt from vaccination—such as for medical reasons, a sincerely held religious belief, as well as children under the age of 12—must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the venue.  A matching photo ID is also required. An accompanying adult may verbally confirm a minor's identity.

What happens if I do not have proof of vaccination or a negative test result?

If proof of vaccination or negative results and matching photo ID (or verbal confirmation for minors) are not presented at the point of entry, attendees may be denied access to the venue and offered a refund/exchange. Entry requirements are subject to change.

Do I have to show my vaccination card at every single performance?

Yes; in order to protect the privacy of our audience members, we will not keep copies of our patrons’ vaccination records. 

My friends/family are attending a performance I purchased. What do I do next?

As the ticket holder, it is your responsibility to ensure your party understands our vaccination policy. This includes any patrons who attend performances with tickets you have purchased.

Are proof of vaccination or negative test results required for OUTDOOR events or performances?

No. Proof of vaccination/COVID-19 test results will not be required for audiences attending outdoor events and performances. 

Which vaccines are considered approved?

Any vaccine authorized by the FDA or WHO is considered approved. This list currently includes: 

  • AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine 

  • Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) 

  • Moderna 

  • Pfizer/BioNTech 

  • Sinopharm 

  • Sinovac 

Will face coverings still be required? 

Beginning May 2, 2022, face coverings are recommended for most events. Face coverings for patrons two and up are required for events that also require proof of vaccination or a negative test result.

I am a George Mason University student, faculty member, or staff member. Do I need to provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results?

Yes. Please be prepared to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test results with matching photo ID. See above for details about accepted forms of vaccine proof and test results.

Evidence shows COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. are safe and protect against severe disease, hospitalization, and death, and more than 350 million shots have been given in the U.S. Vaccines are free and readily available.
