LADAMA's Impactful Residency Wraps Up

September 9, 2019

The Center for the Arts is thrilled to share that the first of three residencies during the inaugural year of Mason’s Artist-in-Residence program was a resounding success!  Latin powerhouse, LADAMA, spent five days in Northern Virginia, sharing their love for music making with others so that they might make a meaningful connection as well.  Over the course of the week, these inspirational women shared their music and passion with more than 1450 people ranging from elementary school-aged to vibrant seniors.

Highlights of their stay included:

  • Conducting a music workshop with the students at Laurel Ridge Elementary School;
  • Joining Mason’s Intro to Latina/o classroom to discuss their experiences working within the Latin Music Industry;
  • Participating in and performing at George Mason’s Take Back the Night event;
  • Holding a drumming workshop for percussion students at Manassas Park High School and Mason students enrolled in World Music Classes;
  • Hosting an Oral traditions workshop for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute;
  • Giving a lecture-demonstration and Q&A at the Old Town Hall in Fairfax;

And, so much more!
