Pilobolus performs BIG FIVE-OH! at the Center on Sunday, February 20 at 8 p.m.

The Center is thrilled to continue a lineup of spectacular performances this spring, including the return of legendary dance companies Pilobolus followed by Mark Morris Dance Group, the very next weekend.

On Sunday, February 20, Pilobolus celebrates its 50th anniversary with BIG FIVE-OH, a dynamically reimagined Pilobolus experience featuring some of its most well-known pieces. The remarkable company that secured an iconic place in American culture in the early 1970s is still wowing audiences with its irresistible mix of wit, sensuality, and stunning physical acumen. As fresh and vibrant as ever, Pilobolus questions its own “givens,” turns its traditions sideways, and brings its past into the future, continuing to thrillingly morph its way into audiences’ hearts and minds.

The following weekend, Mark Morris Dance Group returns to the Center with a medley of lively works, with not one but two, performances on Saturday, February 26. The program opens on a playful note with Words, called “frisky and enigmatic” by The Washington Post. Following is the passionate duet work Jenn and Spencer with musical accompaniment by one of Morris’s favorite composers, Henry Cowell. Suite for Violin and Piano provides a rich and turbulent musical landscape for the dancers. Pas de Poisson lightens the mood with a work for a trio of dancers set to music by Satie. Grand Duo rounds out the exuberant evening of dance created by “the most successful and influential choreographer alive” (The New York Times).

These ever innovative and compelling companies are on every arts lover’s must-see list so make sure to mark your calendars for these back-to-back weekends of performances.
