Jeff Thompson: Impossible in Another Form

New Media

  • August 25, 2014 - September 19, 2014

Fine Arts Gallery

With the use of computers, smartphones, and other digital devices, data is pervasive in our society. Jeff Thompson's work takes a divergent spin on data visualization by using technology to create art that is non-utilitarian and does not seek to prove hypotheses or provide answers to complex problems.  Instead, Thompson’s investigation using cultural and personally derived data, and various digital structures, results in work that is more poetic in nature and seeks to participate in interdisciplinary cultural critiques of the value of information. Currently, Thompson is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Visual Art and Technology at the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey.

"I Am You" World Peace Project: Work by Ahni Sallaway

  • August 25, 2014 - September 26, 2014

Mason Hall Atrium Gallery

"I hope women will recognize themselves in this global mix and feel one with all women.  I want all of us to see that diversity and unity are powerful and beautiful.  The more connected we are to each other, the more harmonious our world will be.  The large- scale faces are hung beside each other, they seem to morph into each other.  If we look closely into each painting, and then into each other, we might realize that we are all more alike than different, that we are all one."  -- Artist statement by Ahni Sallaway

Artist Lecture and Reception: Sept. 5, 6-8 pm
