Minds Wide Open: Women in the Arts
Free ConcerTalk at 7:00 p.m., Concert begins at 8:00 p.m.

To complete the season, the FSO will participate in "Minds Wide Open: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts," the first statewide celebration of its kind.  Between March and June of 2010, thousands of special events will occur to honor contributions by women to arts and culture.  The FSO is doing its part in this important celebration by presenting Jennifer Higdon's blue cathedral and Julie Albers performing the Elgar Cello Concerto.  This closing concert of the season celebrates all of the themes of the year: Barber's anniversary, Zimmerman's British heritage, and the masters of the Classical period (Mozart).  The contrasts between Mozart and Haydn and between Barber and Elgar throughout the season lend a cohesiveness to the programming that will both delight and imbue the FSO's audiences with a heightened appreciation for the musical threads that tie the Masterworks together.
