Christopher O'Riley and Pablo Ziegler: Two to Tango
- February 22, 2015 at 4:00 pm
Two brilliant contemporary pianists share the stage in a program featuring two-piano arrangements of tango music. One of the foremost pianists of his generation, Christopher O'Riley is known for breaking down barriers between classical and popular music, regularly performs as a soloist with the world's leading orchestras, and is host of NPR's From the Top. The Washington Post says, "O'Riley played so delicately that he seemingly left no fingerprints on the keys, yet his melodies sang out with sweet clarity." Latin Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Ziegler launched his career performing in the legendary quintet of tango master Astor Piazzolla, and has since become the face of Argentine New Tango, a fascinating hybrid of tango and American jazz. The Guardian says, "Ziegler…plays straight from the beating, bleeding heart of nuevo tango, with its Argentinian mix of swagger and sweetness."
