Alonzo King, hailed as "one of the few bona fide visionaries in the ballet world today," (San Francisco Chronicle) showcases his illustrious corps of dancers in their first performance at the Center for the Arts. This revered choreographer, and his celebrated contemporary ballet company, LINES Ballet, uses principles of science to further develop the language of movement. Among his many awards, he was honored with the Jacob's Pillow Creativity Award for "moving ballet in a very 21st-century direction." Collaborating with noted composers, musicians, and visual artists, King creates work that imbue classical ballet with a diverse set of deeply rooted cultural traditions, renowned for its profound sense of shared humanity. This exquisite performance includes the critically acclaimed Rasa, a deeply evocative and shimmering work praised by The New York Times as "an intriguing wonder," which is set to a hypnotic score by Grammy-nominated classical Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain.
